Everything is Brahman: The Essence of Advaita Vedanta

🕉️ The Whisper of the Infinite
In the depths of Sanatan Dharma lies an idea so subtle, so revolutionary, and yet so utterly liberating that it can shake the very foundation of how we perceive reality. That idea is encapsulated in a single, boundless declaration:
“Everything is Brahman.”
This is not a poetic metaphor, but the central truth of Advaita Vedanta, a school of philosophy that forms the heart of Sanatan Dharma's non-dualistic tradition. According to Advaita, there is no second, no separation between the individual self and the universal self.
As the Chandogya Upanishad affirms:
"Sarvam Khalvidam Brahma" ~ “All this is indeed Brahman.”
🌌 What Is Brahman?
Brahman is not a god among gods. It is not limited to a name, form, or gender. It is the formless, timeless, spaceless principle that underlies all existence. It is the eternal reality that remains unchanged amidst the transient drama of creation and destruction.
Brahman is:
Nirguna (without qualities) yet is the source of all qualities.
Nirākāra (formless) yet appears as every form.
Aparoksha (directly realizable) though beyond the senses.
“Brahman is not something you find outside. It is what remains when all illusions are seen through.” ~ Adarsh Singh
🧘♂️ The Advaita Perspective: No Two
Advaita means non-duality. It proposes that the Self (Ātman) and Brahman are not different. The sense of separateness, duality, and individuality is Māyā, an illusion born of ignorance (Avidyā).
As the Brihadaranyaka Upanishad says:
“Aham Brahmasmi” ~ “I am Brahman.”
This is not arrogance. It is awakening, recognizing that the core of one’s being is pure consciousness, untouched by time, space, or ego.
🌿 Māyā: The Veil of Illusion
If everything is Brahman, why don’t we experience it?
Because of Māyā, the power of illusion that projects multiplicity upon the One. Through Māyā, we see waves and forget the ocean; we see names and forms but not the underlying unity.
“The universe is not a creation outside of you; it is a projection within you. You are the screen on which the cosmos dances.” ~ Adarsh Singh
🧩 Brahman in Everyday Life
When you begin to see Brahman in all, life transforms:
A flower is no longer just a flower, it is Brahman expressing beauty.
A stranger is no longer a separate being, they are Brahman in another face.
Joy and sorrow are no longer extremes, they are waves upon the infinite sea.
This vision fosters compassion, detachment, and equanimity. You begin to live in the world, but not of the world.
🕯️ Realization vs. Knowledge
Knowing about Brahman is intellectual. Realizing Brahman is experiential.
Advaita guides the seeker through:
Shravana (listening) to teachings
Manana (reflection)
Nididhyāsana (deep meditation)
Only through this can the ego dissolve and the Self realize the Self.
“Liberation is not reaching somewhere. It is awakening to the truth that you were never bound.” ~ Adarsh Singh
🔄 Everything is Brahman: The Ultimate Revolution
This truth isn’t just philosophical, it’s existential. It frees you from:
Fear of death (for Brahman is unborn and eternal)
Attachment to ego (for all is One)
Suffering (for suffering stems from illusion)
It is the final revolution, not of the outer world, but of the inner perception.
“The journey ends when the seeker realizes that the path, the destination, and the One being sought were never different.” ~ Adarsh Singh
🪔 Living Brahman
To live as Brahman is to live fearlessly, lovingly, and consciously. It is to honor every speck of dust as divine, and to bow to the infinite even in the finite.
Let your sādhanā, your work, your relationships, all become expressions of this One Truth.
“When you see the same Self in all beings, you stop seeking and start serving. That is the real proof of realizing Brahman.” ~ Adarsh Singh
