The ancient scriptures, including the Vedas, Upanishads, Puranas, and Yoga Sutras, speak extensively about the powers (Siddhis) attainable by humans through rigorous practice and pure living. Some of these natural abilities included:
Through deep meditation and mastery over the mind, sages could communicate without words — directly sharing thoughts and emotions over vast distances.
Many Rishis had the ability to perceive events happening far away or even in the future. Their consciousness was not bound by time and space as ours is today.
With a pure and focused mind, they could manifest their intentions into reality. It was said that the Sankalpa (pure will) of a realized being never fails.
Some yogis attained control over the five elements — Earth, Water, Fire, Air, and Space. This enabled miraculous feats such as walking on water, resisting fire, or becoming invisible.
Long before modern medicine, our sages had deep knowledge of Ayurveda and the body’s energy systems, allowing them to heal themselves and others through herbs, energy, and sound vibrations.
Through control over Prana (life force), some yogis could make their bodies extremely light, even levitating during deep states of meditation.
These powers were not obtained through shortcuts or magic. They were natural outcomes of:
The human body and mind are capable of far more than we realize. Our sages systematically unlocked these potentials through dedicated practice and wisdom passed down through generations.
The decline of these practices began with the waves of foreign invasions, colonization, and especially during the British rule, when India's traditional knowledge systems were systematically discredited. Spiritual sciences were labeled "superstition" or "mythology." English education replaced the ancient Gurukul system. Over time, we began to look at our own heritage through the lens of the colonizers — with doubt and dismissal.
Moreover, with the rise of materialism and the blind imitation of western lifestyles, we started valuing external success over inner mastery. Instant gratification replaced patience and tapasya. In this environment, the deeper sciences of consciousness faded into the background.
Today, there is a growing awakening. Many seekers, scholars, and youth are beginning to turn inward. They are rediscovering yoga, meditation, Ayurveda, and ancient philosophies not just as cultural artifacts, but as living sciences that can transform life even now.
We must understand:
Our ancestors were not "primitive people with myths" — they were pioneers of inner technologies far more advanced than what modern science has touched.
Let us walk again the path of the Rishis, not to copy the past, but to rediscover the eternal truths.
